CSU PRSSA was proud to invite Audrey Gossett, Ava Roberts, Clare Hawkins, Mara Blakslee and Ryan Ellis to our last meeting of the Fall 2025 semester. These five women work at Prim + Co. Prim + Co is a public relations and integrated marketing agency. When asked about the culture at Prim + Co, the women responded and said it involves growing and supporting one another. The employees have the constant support of their managers, and everyone in the team wants to see each other succeed. Prim + Co typically works with clients in the hospitality, restaurants, non-profit, well-being & health, travel & destination, and so many more!
All five women emphasize networking, whether this is with potential clients or other professionals in the industry. Some ways the women find success through networking are carrying business cards on themselves and DM-ing brands, such as restaurants or nonprofits they would love to represent! When Prim + Co does land a client, the first thing the agency does is create a ninety-day plan for the client. This includes ideas, pitches, who these pitches are being sent out to, deliverables posted to social medias and potential journalists to connect the client with.
As our meeting closed, our members had questions for our guest speakers. When asked about hiring, what traits, habits, or experiences make someone especially successful in an agency/PR environment, the women responded with internship experience, having an appetite to consume all forms of media and having a willingness to jump in and learn will make individuals stand out in the hiring process. Some ways students can stand out when applying for internships or entry-level roles would be through taking free courses on Muck Rack, consuming media such as the news, film, TV, podcasts and Substack. With Subtack, whether students are reading or writing on the platform, it will make them stand out! One last important piece of advice was to not compare your journey to others around you, get experience anywhere and everywhere and communicate what you took away from an experience.
